This song – originally its own entity – joined the full version of “Fluffhead” for that song’s final-draft debut on 9/27/87 with a stop in "Fluff's Travels" on the Junta album. Prior to then (and a few times after) it had shown up from time to time in a jammed-out version that usually lasted for about five minutes or so. The bizarre lyrics were chosen for their sound rather than their meaning, indicative of many early Phish compositions. Some typically cockeyed pre-”Fluffhead” versions of “Clod” can be surmised by obtaining 12/6/86, 5/11/87, 8/21/87, 2/7/88, and a single, post-”Fluffhead” appearance on 11/10/89.
